Carpool workplace

For my Product Management course project, I was tasked with designing new feature for an existing app. I proposed a feature for Waze called Carpool Workplace, which allows users to create carpool groups with people nearby.

The Problem

The rising number of vehicles on the road is a major factor in increasing traffic congestion. In 2020, Israel added 250,000 new vehicles, of which 211,000 were private cars. It has been noted that during typical traffic jams, 90% of vehicles consist of only the driver. This surge in vehicle numbers not only causes traffic delays but also worsens air pollution and negatively impacts residents' quality of life. To tackle this issue, several strategies can be employed, such as enhancing public, encouraging carpooling, and promoting the use of cleaner technologies.

User Reaserch

Based on user research, comprising surveys and interviews with Waze users, showed that safety is one of the main reasons people shy away from carpooling. Many are hesitant to share rides with strangers due to concerns about their safety.

User Segment

The user segment defined as early adopters includes individuals eager to embrace new ideas and technologies. They are willing to take risks on innovative products and often influence their communities by sharing their experiences.

Therefore, the target audience identified for adopting the solution are "Co-Workers" from the high-tech industry:

  • Individuals who share the same work environment (company, building, or workspace).

  • Consistent daily schedule for commuting to and from work

  • Established departure and destination points (e.g., workplace)

  • Greater similarity among individuals fosters increased trust

The Solution

To address the need for reliable and trusted ride-sharing among professionals, this solution connects co-workers within the same workplace or building to verified users for daily carpooling. By leveraging shared routines and a familiar environment, it fosters a sense of community, increases user trust, and encourages consistent, sustainable commuting habits.
